Thoroughly disgusted by our generation because of…
1. The over reliance of technology.
I posted this picture a few days ago but I’m putting it here again.
It has become the immediate instinct to whip out your handphone/ipod/ipad/whatever other technological equipment that people use nowadays whenever you’re placed in an awkward situation, or when you’re waiting for someone who is late, or when you’re walking home, or anytime in fact. The over reliance of electronic gadgets is disgusting me because you wouldn’t believe how difficult it is for people to maintain a proper conversation face to face because either people have become too used to online interaction and hence are socially awkward, or the gadget itself is getting in the way of proper conversation. People have found it now a desperate need to check some sort of social media, be it facebook or twitter or instagram, so much so that they neglect their social lives for a cyber life. That is really sad isn’t it. Let’s not just stop at electronic gadgets that can connect you with people that you cannot see. If I were to ask a simple math sum, many find it extremely difficult to come up with an answer, or to be sure of their answer without first consulting the calculator. This of course leads to the quicker degeneration of the human mind which I personally find is an extremely sad thing. Don’t you? Someone told me before that ‘The higher up in the education system you go, the dumber you are actually becoming (in terms of math), because the better your calculators get. This over reliance is extremely disturbing. Extremely disturbing.
2. The sex crazed culture.
I am frustrated by my lack of good research skills but oh well as you already know the abortion rate not just in Singapore but everywhere in the world is disturbingly high. OKAY YES RESEARCH SKILLS PASS. http://data.un.org/Data.aspx?d=GenderStat&f=inID:12&c=1,2,3,4,5,6&s=crEngName:asc,sgvEngName:asc,timeEngName:desc&v=1 The amount of pornography that is now available on the internet or in some drug stores is disturbing. The need to feel loved and to feel accepted that translates to the want to be attractive and the hope to have sex is disturbingly sad. I think this point is quite self explanatory, so I will not delve into this anymore. But this is sad. This is really really really sad.
3. The focus on academics.
Guilty. The academic pursuit in this generation (and specifically in Asian countries like China and Singapore) is disturbing. If students are not in school, they are at tuition, or they are at home studying for the next test and the next test. This I realise is a generalization but it is still a rising trend it is still happening and it is alarming and disturbing. Whatever happened to enjoying your childhood, or learning out of passion and interest. This monstrosity that is the education system (okay mainly focusing on Singapore now) is taking the interest in learning naturally found in kids and putting it through the shredder. The focus on examinations and on doing well now is taking precedence over many other things that are far more important (such as maintaining positive relationships with people) and I think this is quite disturbing. With that being said,
4. The compromising of morals.
I don’t see so much of this right now in my present situation (which is a puny little student), but I do hear stories of adults compromising on their morals and their integrity for the pursuit of wordly things like money. Some article published some time ago talked about some guy who did some bad thing to get money and then he ended up in jail. As you can tell my knowledge on current affairs is extremely good. Not the point though. The point is that the adults (who admittedly are our role models in life) are looking down on the importance of moral values (in this society but also in every society) and the kids are learning from it! 上梁不正下梁歪!!! Looking down on the importance of moral values is extremely disgusting thing (to me and probably many other people as well because I place moral values in very high regards). Disgusting utterly disgusting.
5. The self centered approach to everything.
Ah yes, the all for one and one for all approach is now becoming a very very rare occurunce. Peoples thoughts now are mainly like this: What can I do for myself so that I can stand out and so that I can get the best marks or the promotion or the job offer etc. The me, myself and I generation, how much more disgusting can this get.
6. The loss of historical cultures.
The loss of historical cultures refers to the loss of culture (e.g. Chinese culture – calligraphy) as well as the loss of traditional values and characteristics that certain cultures put a lot of emphasis on (China – respect). We have started to embrace an entirely new culture on it’s own (a Westernish culture with the base of it being sex and other disgusting stuff), losing the traditional views and values that have been passed down from generation to generation. Where is the respect that we’ve learnt from the Chinese and the Japanese, and the kindness and graciousness learnt from the Thais, just to name a few. Where is it now, in this modern day society. The loss of historical cultures is not just disgusting, it is a tragedy.
Just to name a few.
okay after typing all that out I feel like I don’t know anything hahahahahaha.
